6th Annual Sports Meet

December 15, 2006

Every student at Oasis International School eagerly awaits the annual sports meet. It is a day when children, right from Montessori, celebrate their athletic abilities, giving tribute to their physical prowess with a spirit of fairness and enthusiasm. It’s a much awaited day even for parents to witness the spirit of sportsmanship in their children.

The 6th annual sports meet was held for two consecutive days, i.e., on 8th and 9th December 2006, at the Mount Carmel College Sports Stadium. On 8th, the toddlers, from Montessori and Reception, were in action. Their eagerly awaited sports day began with a bang. The winter chill in the early hours of the day didn’t stop our tiny “Sport stars” from beating the chill and running to victory. At the word “GO”, the tiny tots ran as fast as they could, as parents cheered on. The novelty races such as the Butterfly Race, Hopla Race, Threading Beads Race and Frog Jump were interesting, each one laden with meaning.

The highlight of the day was the Aerobics Show put up by the girls of Grades 5, 6 and 7; so graceful and in perfect rhythm to the band.

The sports meet was made complete by “mothers” who participated in a special event – “Find your shoe”. Children cheered their mothers as they moved towards the finishing line.

The meet came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms.Disha Batra, head of Montessori.

On 9th December, 2006, hectic activity had started in Mount Carmel College Sports Stadium. The tents belonging to the four houses were abuzz with activity with children and teachers decorating their respective tents with banners, posters, ribbons, balloons and every other colourful material. By 8.45 am, the captains had assembled all their house members for the opening march past. The Guards of Honour had the privilege of welcoming the Chief Guest Mohamed Sanaulla, Secretary to Government of Karnataka Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment. The programme commenced with Surat-Ul-Fatiha, followed by the welcome speech given by our school principal, Mrs. Azeeza Easa. After the school flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, the sports captain took the oath. The Chief Guest spoke words of appreciation and encouragement. He was impressed with the values and discipline of the school which was so evident in our children, and thereafter he declared the sports meet open.

The excitement began with the first race- a 400 mt sprint by grades 5, 6 and 7 boys-and built up as the day progressed. The enthusiastic cheering from students and parents encouraged the competitors to do their best.

Apart from various colourful theme based drills, students displayed their karate skills, which was commendable performance.

Prizes were distributed during the course of events by the Chief Guest, members of the School Management and PTA members.

The commentators added to the exhilaration with their witty and encouraging remarks. The ticking scoreboard kept the teams elated. Yells of delight echoed as the scores fluctuated. The “Balloon Bursting” game specially planned for fathers and the 100 mt dash for the school gent’s faculty, had children on their toes cheering and encouraging them.

The event culminated with the final march past and the distribution of individual championships and house prizes.

The green house won the honour of being the best disciplined house and also they pulled away to victory with the highest score.

The yellow house won a prize for their march past. Ms. Disha Batra, proposed the Vote of Thanks and then the crowd stood to attention for the National Anthem.

All good things must come to an end and so did our 6th annual sports meet. The lovely weather, enthusiastic participants and vigorous cheering made this year’s sports day a grand success.

Little Red Riding Hood – 2C

December 15, 2006

On the 15th of December the 2C students acted Little Red Riding Hood-play in the school assembly. The cast was following:

Little Red Riding Hood: Ifrah Mariam,
Mother: Ruqayia,
Grandma: Maleeha,
Wolf: Aazib,
Woodcutter: Hisamuddin and
Narrator: Shariq Faraz

Once upon a time there was a little girl named little Red Riding Hood, who lived in the forest with her mother and father. One day while little Red Riding Hood was playing, her mother called out to her and asked her to visit her sick grandma.

Little Red Riding Hood took the basket of food which her mother had given her to take to her grandmother who lived in the deep woods. She was asked not to talk to the straingers on the way. But little Red Riding Hood stopped on the way to pluck some flowers that she could not resist, and what happened? She met the bad wolf.

The wicked wolf planned to eat Little Red Riding Hood, but since there were some woodcutters around, he enquired from the Red Riding Hood where she was going and rushed to her grandma’s house to receive her there.

Grandmother heard a knock on the door and opened the door only to have the bad wolf spring upon her and locked her up in the cupboard. The wolf then got dressed in grandma’s clothes and lay on the bed ready to receive Little Red Riding Hood.

Little Red Riding Hood arrives and gets such a shock to see grandma look so different… The wolf tried to attack the Little Red Riding hood, but luckily the woodcutter arrived.

The woodcutter threw the bad wolf over the hills and saved little Red Riding hood and her grandma from being killed. And they all lived happily without the fear of the wolf ever again.

“What is Red” -poems from 2B

December 14, 2006

I really love the colour red.
It makes me think of jam and bread.
I really love the colour red.
It makes me think about my pet.
My pet loves to fidget with my pencil box,
So, I hide it in the post box.
I hurt my nose,
While looking out for a rose.
It started bleeding
And my mother was cleaning,
the dirty floor.
When I opened the door.
She saw the bleeding nose,
And rushed into the house.
Now, I hate the colour Red
It makes me think about my blood.
(Classpoem)

I really love the colour red,
It makes me think about my bed.
I really love my red bed,
because it is my cartoon bed.
(Omer Farooq)

Oh red! Oh red! I really like the colour red.
It makes me think about my pet.
My ball is red.
When I play with it, I think of the colour red.
When I went out,
my hand got cut.
My friend said: “What happened?”,
but I didn’t tell them.
Now I hate the colour red.
(Aishan)

I really love the colour red,
It makes me think of jam and bread.
I really love the colour red,
It makes me think of my best friend.
I really love the colour red,
It makes me think of sleep in my bed.
I really love the colour red,
It makes me think of my mother’s head.
(Zaim)

Red is my favourite colour,
that’s my dress.
Red is my favourite colour,
that’s my pant.
Red is my favourite colour,
that’s my post box.
Red is the colour of my house.
(Naba)

My bed is red,
I can feel my bed.
I can feel my bed is wet,
I can’t sleep in my bed because it is wet.
(Ismail)

I really love the colour red.
It makes me think about my thread.
I really love the colour red because,
Cinderella wears a gown that is red.
I really love the colour red.
It makes me think about my pet.
